ICELAND OFF LIMITS
Our plan is to travel around the entire country of Iceland uniquely using our bikes. The total trajectory is of 2000 km, averaging out to 50 km per day over a period of 40 days. On May 12th 2017 we departed from Montreal airport, shipping the bikes with us, only to return on June 22nd. We took many detours off the main 1300 km road circling the country to stop by waterfalls, the Westmann islands, the Sólheimasandur plane crash, various hot springs, geysers, the highlands, small towns and many more of Iceland's hidden gems. With very few towns on the way, we mostly relied on wild camping. Temperatures range from 0 to 12 degrees, it rains about 1 out of 3 days and during the month of June the sun never set.
PICTURES OF THE TRIP
Thomas (left) and Julian (right) have known each other for over 8 years now. We are both adventure seeking individuals driven by the outdoors. Having backpacked across Europe for 2 months last summer, we wanted to take it one step further this year. Thomas is currently studying international business while Julian continues to create content through his photography and video work. We are both extremely organized, passionate and determined making us the perfect team for this project.
Iceland has been on our to-do list for a while now. The landscapes are absolutely unique and the pictures really do speak for themselves. Over 70% of the population lives in the region of Reykjavik leaving the rest of the country quite deserted. The mix of isolation and stunning scenery is what attracts us so much. Cycling around Iceland just seems like the perfect way to discover this place.
